T5W #23: Random Things I’ve Been Obsessing Over

top

Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes. Topics are set for every week so to join in on the fun just check out the memes goodreads group. This week’s topic is Current Favorites that Aren’t Books. This could be anything from movies to food to makeup….

Ugh I hate freebie topics! Anyway I couldn’t think of anything specific I wanted for this post so I just decided to do a mish-mosh of some random things that have interested me in the past month. Enjoy 😁😁😁

Netfix Shows (i.e. Thirteen Reasons Why & Riverdale)

To be honest, Netflix just started working in my country so obviously I’m freaking out to find out what all the fuss was about. And it seems it came just in time for the 13 Reasons Why tv adaptation *squeals* (Have you guys seen the trailer??? *squeals again*).

Thirteen Reasons Why Tv ShowThirteen Reasons Why is just a good book, you’d never know it carries such a big punch and I’m so happy it’s getting adaptation. I’m kinda nervous because what if it’s horrible…

Riverdale

O.m.g guys a show based on the Archie Comics?! Netflix is really killing it! I’m so excited to watch this when I can because GAH! It’s an Archie adaptation! *flails*

I don’t know how I could call myself a fledgling techie when I never watched Marques Brownlee on YouTube before 2017. I fixed that this month and have suddenly found myself binge watching all his tech reviews (which are absolutely top notch).

Interactive Stories

(Y’all know I’m an electronics engineering student so don’t be shocked at all the tech/coding references) This year I discovered the pot of gold that is Twine. Guys this program is such an easy way to make interactive stories with minimal coding – so expect something like this from me soon. That’s all I’ll say….

Australia

My boyfriend moved to Australia for school this year. This obviously made me interested in everything about the country because I wanna live vicariously through him. I now spend my hours carefully stalking him and googling all I can about the country. *sigh*

Web Comics (i.e. Sarah Scribbles)

Sarah ScribblesLast year I discovered Allow Brosh and Hyperbole and a Half. This year its Sarah Andersen and Sarah Scribbles! And I love her little comics just as much because they’re so funny and relatable! Plus I know there are plenty of blogs similar to these two so I’m really looking forward to discovering tons of others (recs.. anyone?)

T5W [#22] 2017 Debuts I Can’t Wait to Read

top

118368Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on TomesTopics are set for every week so to join in on the fun just check out the memes goodreads group. This week’s topic is 2017 Debuts You Are Excited For. This topic is a little tricky for me because there are so many sequels or books by already established authors I’m looking forward to. Its kinda hard to hype over authors you’ve never read before but I’ll try my darn hardest in this post:

1. City of Saints and Thieves by Natalie C. Anderson

29995905Release Date: 24 Jan 2016

City of Saints and Thieves is a YA thriller set in Africa (Kenya) about a girl who’s mother is murdered while working as a maid for a wealthy family. The story is about this girl journey to get revenge for her mother’s murder.

I love love love revenge stories and what makes this better is that it’s set in Africa (aka the motherland) I can’t wait to see what this author has to offer. There is so much rich culture in Kenya so I can’t wait to see if Natalie C. Anderson incorporates some of it into her story.

2. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

32075671Release Date: 28 Feb 2017

Black Lives Matter exploded in 2016 and to be honest I don’t live in the US so the movement didn’t really affect me personally. Racial police brutality isn’t really a thing in my country. But that doesn’t mean it didn’t mean anything obviously. It must be really hard being black in America going through all the negativity. The story is about a girl (Starr Carter) who is the sole witness of her friends murder by a white cop. Starr has a lot to say after that and what she says could destroy her community. It could even get her killed.

I can’t wait to see where this story goes, racism is such a sensitive topic so I hope Angie Thomas will add something important to the discussion…

 3. The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles

22296822Release Date: 25 Jan 2017

To be honest when I looked at the cover I expected a contemporary romance or something along those lines. This book is actually about a 17 year old girl named Zoe is still reeling from her father’s sudden death when she and her brother are suddenly brutally attacked. She’s saved by a mysterious bounty hunter called X. X is no ordinary bounty hunter. He is from a hell called the Lowlands, sent to claim the soul of Zoe’s evil attacker and others like him.

I mean just looking at the cover, would you ever expect that?! This is one I’m definitely looking foward too…

4. Caraval by Stephanie Garber

27883214Release Date: 31 Jan 2017

I think we all know what this one is about. Two sisters escape their ruthless father to visit the world’s most epic carnival. One of them is kidnapped and the other has to play a deadly game with the Caravals masterminds to find her.

This is probably the most hyped debut of 2017 so of course I’m jumping on the hype train. Choo Choo!

5. Wicked Like Wildfire by Lana Popovic

32051720Release Date: 15 Aug 2017

Just look at that gorgous cover! Gimme a sec while I wipe the drool from my face..

Wicked Like Wildfire is a story about two sisters and their distant mother each with incredible magical powers. The mother forbids the two sisters from using their powers and -most importantly- falling in love. But the mother is attacked and the two sisters must untangle a thousand years of lies and reveal their own hurtful secrets to save their mother and themselves.

Wicked Like a Wildfire is the first book in a bewitching duology about the power of love, death, magic, and the many faces of beauty.

That’s it for this week’s Top 5 Wednesday!

What are some of your favourite 2017 debuts

Fictional Items I’d Give as Gifts

118368Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes. Topics are set for every week so to join in on the fun just check out our goodreads group. This week’s topic is Fictional Items You’d Give as a Gift. In the spirit of Christmas we’re supposed to list fictional items we’d give as gifts to friends and family.

1. A Dauntless Tattoo (Item from Divergent by Veronica Roth)

If you’re into that sort of thing a tattoo drawn on you by a divergent-land dauntless would be seriously wicked, don’t you agree!

2. Wizarding Chess Set (Item from Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling)

Chess pieces that actually fight each other. Need I say more?

3. A Private Concert with Sydney and Ridge (Item from Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover)

Who remembers this OTP? A private concert with Ridge would be an amazing gift!

4. A Ticket to the Night Circus (Item from Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern)

The Night Circus is awesome, I would probably end up keeping the ticket for myself instead of giving it away!

5. A Clock Made by Friedrick Thiessen (Item from Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern)

Another Night Circus item! If you’ve read the book you’ll remember Friedrick Thiessen’s clocks were c’est magnifique!

I bet you’ve noticed all my gifts are experience based. I love to give gifts that lead to the creation of a memory. In my opinion, good memories are priceless and are the best gift a person can receive/give!
