Beginners Guide to Reading

So obviously this post isn’t for the people who run book blogs/vlogs and are reading this because clearly you don’t need any of my help in the reading department. This post is for the people who’ve never read a single full length chapter novel in their lives but are trying to change their wierd ways. This post is for the dear readers who stumbled across my blog and wondered how this strange breed of creatures could possibly exist on the Internet with the seemingly sole intent of flailing about books.

The Chainsmokers Book Tag!

Hey everyone! If you’re like me then you’ve been playing the new Chainsmokers/Coldplay collab (Something Just Like This) on repeat for the last couple days. That song is awesome guys,  I can’t seem to get them out of my head so I got inspired to do the Chainsmokers book tag. I wasn’t tagged to this but I’ve seen it floating out the blogosphere. This tag was created by Kat @ KatReadsALot.

  • Post a blog post or a video (YouTubers you are welcome to do this tag!)
  • You can copy the song lyrics so people can know where the questions are based on. For those without lyrics, we based it on the title. #Genius
  • Tag friends to do the post as well!
P.S. You don’t have to be tagged to do this tag! Just give it a try!

T5W #25: Slumping It? Here’s 5 Books to Get You Out of That Funk!

118368Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on TomesTopics are set for every week so to join in on the fun just check out the memes goodreads group. This week’s topic is Books to Get You Out of a Reading Slump.

Personally, when I’m in a reading funk, YA contemporary (the fluffier the better) is what I usually pick up to try and get out if it. That’s obviously because it’s usually the easiest and quickest genre to get through. Finishing the book gives that sense of accomplishment and momentum to keep reading…

So if you’re like me, pick up a book from the shallow end of the book pool and get out of that reading slump.

#Famous by Jilly Gagnon

#famousIn this modern-day love story, Girl likes Boy, Girl takes photo of Boy and posts it online, Boy becomes accidentally insta-famous. And what starts out as an innocent joke spirals into a whirlwind adventure that could change both their lives—and their hearts—forever. But are fame and love worth the price?

Told in alternating points of view, #famous captures the out-of-control thrill ride of falling for someone in front of everyone.

Such a cute little book that highlights the perils of twit- *ahem* flit fuame. But seriously though, I’m about halfway through it and it’s so cute how relatable it’s trying to be. I picked it up because I was in a slump and it’s definitely got me reading again. It really helps that the book is short because I’m flying through it. I’m hoping this momentum will carry me in to the next (hopefully more intense) book.

To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han

Jenny HanTo All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is the story of Lara Jean, who has never openly admitted her crushes, but instead wrote each boy a letter about how she felt, sealed it, and hid it in a box under her bed. But one day Lara Jean discovers that somehow her secret box of letters has been mailed, causing all her crushes from her past to confront her about the letters: her first kiss, the boy from summer camp, even her sister’s ex-boyfriend, Josh. As she learns to deal with her past loves face to face, Lara Jean discovers that something good may come out of these letters after all.

Agh Jenny Han gives me all the feels. Guys if you’re looking for a fun YA contemporary and haven’t read To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, I suggest you go to a bookstore STAT! Its fun and cute and I’ve read this book about a bazillion times and it never fails to life me out of a slump. 😉

By Your Side by Kasie West

30256248When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn’t think things could get any worse. But that’s before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her. Autumn doesn’t know much about Dax except that he’s trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he’s not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.

Only he doesn’t come. No one does.

Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye. As he and Autumn first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn’s old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax’s side?

I’ve read one other book by this author (The Fill-In Boyfriend) and I’ve noticed her books are always such fun, light reads so if your looking for fun and light Kassie West is the author for you.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

11065441Hi, I’m the guy who reads your e-mail, and also, I love you …”

Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder know that somebody is monitoring their work e-mail. (Everybody in the newsroom knows. It’s company policy.) But they can’t quite bring themselves to take it seriously. They go on sending each other endless and endlessly hilarious e-mails, discussing every aspect of their personal lives.

Meanwhile, Lincoln O’Neill can’t believe this is his job now- reading other people’s e-mail. When he applied to be “internet security officer,” he pictured himself building firewalls and crushing hackers- not writing up a report every time a sports reporter forwards a dirty joke.

When Lincoln comes across Beth’s and Jennifer’s messages, he knows he should turn them in. But he can’t help being entertained-and captivated-by their stories.

By the time Lincoln realizes he’s falling for Beth, it’s way too late to introduce himself.

What would he say …?

Rainbow Rowell just does YA contemporary like no one else. This book wasn’t anything serious but it just gives feeling in your chest. I don’t even have words… I just cannot recommend this book enough gah!

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick

12294652“One thing my mother never knew, and would disapprove of most of all, was that I watched the Garretts. All the time.”

The Garretts are everything the Reeds are not. Loud, messy, affectionate. And every day from her rooftop perch, Samantha Reed wishes she was one of them . . . until one summer evening, Jase Garrett climbs up next to her and changes everything.

As the two fall fiercely for each other, stumbling through the awkwardness and awesomeness of first love, Jase’s family embraces Samantha – even as she keeps him a secret from her own. Then something unthinkable happens, and the bottom drops out of Samantha’s world. She’s suddenly faced with an impossible decision. Which perfect family will save her? Or is it time she saved herself?

A transporting debut about family, friendship, first romance, and how to be true to one person you love without betraying another.

Growing up an only child I really related to this book/main character so I’m kinda biased to the book. Besides that though I think this is a fun book, it balances light and serious really well. If you’re looking for a ya contemporary romance with a splash of seriousness, then I definitely recommend this one. It flies by really fast.

Judging the New ZENITH Cover

Hey guys!

I’m back again with a new cover judge post rhing (these posts are really fun to do and you guys seem to like them so now we can all fangirl at pretty covers together!…)

Anyway! The Zenith cover just dropped a few hours ago (watch the cover reveal here) and I’m pretty much flailing with excitement! If you didnt, know Zenith is the upcoming full length book by booktuber Sasha Alsberg (Abookutopia) and Lindsay Cummings (Author of The Murder Complex). Wasting no time: The book cover is: *drumroll please*

My initial reaction was: Wait… what? I don’t know why in my head I thought the cover would change completely from the original one below. I don’t know… I just figured Harlequin would want to start afresh with the look of the book since now it’s a full length novel. I guess I guessed wrong (I’m just a teenie bit disappointed because I didn’t know I was waiting for something new until we got something old….. I’m I even making any sense?!). Apparently the same designer who worked on the first cover was also a part of the team that worked on the new cover (which explains things).

29569157I guess it doesn’t really matter that they stuck with basically the same design and color scheme.

The new cover looks really clean and polished compared to the old one which is probably why my gut is making googly eyes at it. I like that the symbol (which I’m assuming is the Marauder ship’s symbol (?)) is now the focal point of the cover. The cover colors were a great choice because the book really stands out now. I would definitely be drawn to it in a bookstore!

Overall when everything comes together I feel that the result is a pretty awesome cover!

*I’ll only be discussing books who’s covers have been released recently.
*This post is 100% non spoilery so don’t fear nerdlings.

THE DARK PROPHECY (The Trials of Apollo #2) by Rick Riordan
Release Date: May 2 2017
Rating: ❤❤

Okay I have no idea what’s going on here. The cover for The Hidden Oracle (Book 1) was really pretty, I don’t know what this mess is. Something about the color and the detailing is a turn off. Do you agree?

Release Date: May 2 2017
Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Excuse me a second… *walks off to scream into a pillow*… Guys I’m freaking out! I’m such a huge fan of the A Court of Thorns and Roses series and seeing the new covers always gets me because they’re always epic. Can I just say I totally knew this one would be green! It’s just so powerful, Feyre looks ready to murder with that wicked looking knife in her hand and the armoured dress!

IRON GOLD by Pierce Brown
Release Date: August 22 2017
Rating: ❤❤❤❤

Ok let’s be honest with each other for a sec; I haven’t even finished the Red Rising Trilogy yet 🙈🙈🙊 Hear me out! Red Rising is my favorite book (OF ALL TIME!) so I’m trying to go slow with the series and really enjoy it. Anyway Iron Gold looks epic, white covers always look regal but what’s with the burning feather?

DOWN AMONG THE STICKS AND BONES (Every Heart a Doorway #2) by Seanan McGuire

Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

If you’ve been following me for any amount of time you know I absolutely, a 1000% loved Every Heart a Doorway and it’s cover so it’s no surprise I love this cover too. Its dark and intriguing – as it should be since we’re going to be exploring Jack and Jill’s sinster world. Mad scientists and vampires… So exciting!

THE WISH GRANTER ( Ravenspire #2) by C. J. Redwine
Release Day: February 14 2017
Rating: ❤❤❤❤❤

Let’s be honest again; I never really liked the first Ravenspire book but I’m willing to give C. J. Redwine another chance because this cover is gorgeous! And the synopsis of the book doesn’t hurt too; a Rumpelstiltskin retelling! Could be really good or really bad…

ROYAL BASTARDS by Andrew Shvarts
Release Day: June 6th 2017
Rating: ❤❤❤

Bastards, thrones and magical kindgdoms. (Sound familiar? 😋) Anyway this is one of my most anticipated reads and the cover is really…. underwhelming. I was just expecting more. Anyway it does sound like an interesting read and from what I could glean its mostly about friendship which is great!

THE BURNING WORLD (Warm Bodies #2) by Isaac Marion
Release Day: February 7 2017
Rating: ❤❤❤

I’m not even sure when this cover came out exactly because I was too busy squealing over the fact that Warm Bodies HAS A SEQUEL! Like what in the world!?? I read Warm Bodies way back in 2016 (totally loved it!) so I’m dying to read this. Anyway the cover: I love the red and black. Kinda sad to see a burning city in the cover because I thought we had a happy ending in the first book… Oh well…

What are some of your favorite covers/ cover reveals? Let me know in the comments!
