T5W [#22] 2017 Debuts I Can’t Wait to Read

118368Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on TomesTopics are set for every week so to join in on the fun just check out the memes goodreads group. This week’s topic is 2017 Debuts You Are Excited For. This topic is a little tricky for me because there are so many sequels or books by already established authors I’m looking forward to. Its kinda hard to hype over authors you’ve never read before but I’ll try my darn hardest in this post:

1. City of Saints and Thieves by Natalie C. Anderson

29995905Release Date: 24 Jan 2016

City of Saints and Thieves is a YA thriller set in Africa (Kenya) about a girl who’s mother is murdered while working as a maid for a wealthy family. The story is about this girl journey to get revenge for her mother’s murder.

I love love love revenge stories and what makes this better is that it’s set in Africa (aka the motherland) I can’t wait to see what this author has to offer. There is so much rich culture in Kenya so I can’t wait to see if Natalie C. Anderson incorporates some of it into her story.

2. The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas

32075671Release Date: 28 Feb 2017

Black Lives Matter exploded in 2016 and to be honest I don’t live in the US so the movement didn’t really affect me personally. Racial police brutality isn’t really a thing in my country. But that doesn’t mean it didn’t mean anything obviously. It must be really hard being black in America going through all the negativity. The story is about a girl (Starr Carter) who is the sole witness of her friends murder by a white cop. Starr has a lot to say after that and what she says could destroy her community. It could even get her killed.

I can’t wait to see where this story goes, racism is such a sensitive topic so I hope Angie Thomas will add something important to the discussion…

 3. The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles

22296822Release Date: 25 Jan 2017

To be honest when I looked at the cover I expected a contemporary romance or something along those lines. This book is actually about a 17 year old girl named Zoe is still reeling from her father’s sudden death when she and her brother are suddenly brutally attacked. She’s saved by a mysterious bounty hunter called X. X is no ordinary bounty hunter. He is from a hell called the Lowlands, sent to claim the soul of Zoe’s evil attacker and others like him.

I mean just looking at the cover, would you ever expect that?! This is one I’m definitely looking foward too…

4. Caraval by Stephanie Garber

27883214Release Date: 31 Jan 2017

I think we all know what this one is about. Two sisters escape their ruthless father to visit the world’s most epic carnival. One of them is kidnapped and the other has to play a deadly game with the Caravals masterminds to find her.

This is probably the most hyped debut of 2017 so of course I’m jumping on the hype train. Choo Choo!

5. Wicked Like Wildfire by Lana Popovic

32051720Release Date: 15 Aug 2017

Just look at that gorgous cover! Gimme a sec while I wipe the drool from my face..

Wicked Like Wildfire is a story about two sisters and their distant mother each with incredible magical powers. The mother forbids the two sisters from using their powers and -most importantly- falling in love. But the mother is attacked and the two sisters must untangle a thousand years of lies and reveal their own hurtful secrets to save their mother and themselves.

Wicked Like a Wildfire is the first book in a bewitching duology about the power of love, death, magic, and the many faces of beauty.

That’s it for this week’s Top 5 Wednesday!

What are some of your favourite 2017 debuts
