T5W #16: Favorite Publishing Houses

118368Top 5 Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes. Topics are set for every week so to join in on the fun just check out our goodreads group. This week’s topic is  Favorite Publishers, pretty self explanatory right. This one is going to be a little tricky because I don’t want to just list the “Big Five (or is it four?)” publishers and any other publishing house I think of just turns out to be an imprint of the Big Five.

Anyway here is the list of my favorite publishers (in no particular order):

This is the house that brought us Harry Potter so of course it’s going to be number one on this list. Other favourites of mine published by Bloomsbury are the Throne of Glass series and the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Mass.

This is the only publishing company that has a branch in my country which trust me is something almost magical (I’m saying this because we never get anything in my country, we don’t even have a McDonald’s!). Anyways Penguin is a favorite because it published some of my favorite books: all Roald Dahl books, the Maze Runner by James Dashner, Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys, And I Darken by Kiersten White, Red Rising (my all time favourite book (which technically was published by Del Ray an imprint of Penguin Random House))

3. Disney Hyperion

Disney Hyperion is the publisher I turn to when I’m looking for fun, adventurous books. So many of my favorite books were birthed by Disney Hyperion: we have The Darkest Mind  series by Alexandra Bracken, Passenger by Alexandra Bracken, most of Rick Riordans books, the Starbound series by Amy Kaufman.

4. HarperCollins

Technically this should be HarperTeen. Honestly every time I see HarperCollins on a book I get excited because I expect big things from this house more than any of the others I don’t know why. Some favorites brought to us by Harper: Red Queen series by Victoria Aveyard, Three Dark Crowns by Kendra Black, Rebel by Amy Tinera, the Firebird series by Claudia Grey, The Selection series by Kiera Cass.

5. Simon and Schuster

Ugh I know I promised to try to stay away from the Big Four publishers but here I am with 3 on my list 🙈🙈🙈. Anyway Simon and Schuster is great – home to many great authors (Cassandra Clare, Jenny Han) so obviously it’s going to be a favorite!

What are your favorite publishers?

    1. I know, Rick Riordan is basically the reason I fell in love with Disney Hyperion!
I had such a hard time trying to figure out which imprints belonged to which house so I gave up and just listed the big publishers I knew and liked.
