Glass Sword (Red Queen #2) by Victoria Aveyard
Expected Release: February 9th 2016
My Rating: 3 of 5 stars
Disclaimer: I will not be posting the summary of this book in case you have not yet read Red Queen because of the spoilers.
I was lucking enough to receive an eARC copy of this book from a friend of mine. It took a week to finish because it’s definitely harder to read when you’re juggling college work too, but I did it!
You might be wondering why I gave this book a 3 out of 5 star rating, because it was one of my most anticipated 2016 reads. I think that was the problem, I started reading this book with such high expectations (I gave Red Queen a 5/5 star rating) and I don’t want to say I was disappointed but this book just didn’t do it for me. Don’t get me wrong it was a good book, definitely action packed, it just didn’t have a hold on me like the first book did.
The problem with sequels is they are rarely as good as the first book. The actual plot of the book felt a little too familiar for me for example there were a lot of similarities between Katniss Everdeen and Mare Barrow (both very whinny, both faces of rebellions, both had very awkward love triangles… you get it. ).
Mare Barrow just so whinny in this book, like we get it bad things happened to her but she didn’t need to turn into the person she became. Another thing I didn’t like about this book was how Mare developed as a character, it was just so disheartening to watch everything unfold as it did. Not everything was bad though, this book had good qualities too, the action and the drama. Plus the ending O.M.G, guys it was crazy, biggest cliff-hanger ever!
Just a reminder these are my opinions, you might end up loving the book or hating it, I don’t know, it just didn’t blow me away. All in all in was an okay book, can’t wait to see what happens in the next book.
Thanks for reading my review, more to come.
